darkdragon > Plog 8-05-08: Philips 5.6-Inch Digital Photo Frame

If anyone out there is looking for a nice photo frame. This is it. I've had it since March but just loaded up an SD card with photos and started using the frame yesterday.

I love this thing. The images are EXTREMELY sharp and vibrant. The controls are simple, it is silent (unless you are playing a video of course). The frame has a Tilt Sensor, so when you turn it to portrait mode it will display all the images in that mode, here in this photo I'm displaying a tall image in frame landscape mode, it adds a white edging (which you can change to black or gray).

There is built-in internal memory but you can get a lot of images on a memory card. The frame takes SD, XD, CF. I just love it, thinking of getting another one (I have this one at work).

Some reviews say that this frame chugs or freezes after 5 mins but I had it running all day yesterday slideshow with 103 images and a fade between each one - absolutely no problems. I would recommend resizing your images to 640x480 before putting them in the frame, that way the frame doesn't have to resize them.

darkdragon > Plog 12-14-08: So sad.

Came out from lunch today and had a flat tire. Husband and I spent about 30 or so minutes changing the tire (my first time changing one on my truck, his first time ever). Security guard came buy and helped us out too, that was a really nice thing for him to do.

Anyway, my tires were pretty bad (not horrible though) so I figured now was as good a time as any to get new ones. $900 later, I have 4 new tires.

Why am I sad? Well, I'd much rather spend that money on something fun. Feeling safe driving is nice too though. ;-)
darkdragon > Plog 01-23-09: Competition

So tonight was camera club competition night. It happens every month at Nevada Camera Club. The way it works is you get a ribbon for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place which is blue, red, white.

I've been in Camera Club for exactly a year now, here is a shot of most of my ribbons (I've misplaced a couple). Entry is limited to 3 per month, I don't think I've gone any competition without winning at least 2 ribbons - though I didn't enter every time.

The problem (as you can see) is that I've only won 3 blue ribbons. I can get SO close and then end up with 2nd place. It is frustrating, but I keep at it.
darkdragon > Plog 02-19-09: Ungh

Came in to this today. Mainenance switched the corner walls of my cube yesterday while I was working from home. Unfortunately they didn't tell me that they were going to do that, so i'm working and all of a sudden my connection drops. I couldn't get to my machines. Luckily my coworkers let me know what was going on.

This is what I came into today, had to spend the morning setting everything up again. Took this with my iPhone which is why it is so blurry and such. I'm shaky today since I had to take some headache meds and they make me shaky. Hopefully I'll feel better soon.

Thanks everyone for the comments on my previous photo! I really appreciate it.
darkdragon > Plog 8-02-08: Sooo Tired

Managed to get up at 5am this morning to go out to the wetlands and get some photos before it got too hot (was 88 when I left the park at 8:30am, 93 ten minutes later when I got home).

So yeah, I got out there and got pictures of rabbits and ants and this sunrise shot. No bird photos (though I snapped a really bad picture of a roadrunner which I was not expecting to see), no dragonflies, and no coyotes. Oh well, I will try again. I am thinking next trip will be late evening around 6 or 7pm to get some hawks and coyotes.
darkdragon > Plog 7-19-08: Still Hot Out Here

Trip to Zion over the weekend. I didn't get a lot of images - it was SO dang hot (over 100f) and crowded too. Normally I go to Zion in winter when it is perfect.

Anyhow, I found this little guy who ran up to drink water that was splashing out of the drinking fountain while some guy was filling up a water bottle.
darkdragon > Plog 4-26-08: What?

Getting gear ready for my first trip to the press area of a baseball game since 1995! Hopefully it is as fun as I remember. I'll be posting some images here tomorrow night.

This photo is a strange little arrangement I found on a tree at the park. Beads and flower (fake) wrapped around the supports and trunk of this young tree. I don't know why or what they were for...maybe some party long ago.
darkdragon > Plog 5-8-08: Autofocus is King

So, I got a new Canon 2x converter for my 70-200mm f4L. Yeah, I know that I lose autofocus with that. I just wanted the reach.

Went to the park to test out the 2x and had some great views, especially liked the ducklings. However, without autofocus the only decent picture I got was of a dove that was pretty much standing still.

I am posting this picture because the ducklings are cute!

Looks like I'll be upgrading to the 70-200 F2.8L soon. I'll need to sell my F4L IS first though.
darkdragon > Plog 5-25-08: Overcast Days are Great

Went out to the park yesterday for some shots with the new 70-200 f2.8L + 2xTC. No IS on that lens, so some of my shots got a bit blurry. However, the shots that were good were great. I don't know why people complain about that 2xTC - I freakin love it.

After a bit of a problem with my first copy of the lens (autofocus didnt work), the new one I got is just superb. I can't get over how sharp it is. For under $1500 I have a 400mm zoom! SWEET!
