darkdragon > Plog 6-18-08: It's Hot Out There

Went to the "Strip" with the camera club tonight. Had a good time, though the time went to fast and I had to get home for bed. I liked the sad faces on the statues in a fountain, this is one of them. I think I might try some photoshop stuff on some of my other images, but this is all I have processed so far.

Time for bed.
darkdragon > Plog 2-19-08: OOB

Again with the not-daily updates. Been pretty busy these last too weeks getting ready for a Print Photo Competition with the local camera club. It's my first time doing a competition with print photos, so I've been learning a lot quickly. The contest is this friday so I hope I get some good feedback - I'm entering 7 photos (all in different categories).

As for this photo, it is my very first try at "OOB" or "Out Of Border" image editing. I like it, it's cool. This was done on a pretty crappy (blown out) museum photo I took in 2005. Turned out decent though, I'm excited to do some more interesting images. Perhaps I'll create an OOB album here on smugmug.
darkdragon > Plog 01-21-09: Last One...Maybe

Done with all my project concept shots. This is one of my favorites so far, this is taken with a point&shoot. I took it yesterday but wasn't feeling well and didn't get anything uploaded here, tonight I've been working on prints so not photo taken today.
darkdragon > 03/27/09: Chimchar!

I was at Fry's Electronics and put $1 into a Pokemon capsule machine. So lucky to get the toy that is my favorite Pokemon! Took this photo when I got back to the office (on break of course). Behind Chimchar is a USB airplane fan.
darkdragon > Plog 8-12-08: Neat

I was playing with my G9 and the .25x fisheye adapter I put on it. I cut this image out of the image circle. The strange colors are caused by playing with the Levels in photoshop (6.0). The effect was an accident but I thought it looked really neat.
darkdragon > Plog 01-09-0: CES Day 2

Using the Canon G9 went a lot better for me. I was able to get closeup shots of products and wide shots of booths. I guess that is the only problem with SLR cams, to get all the photos you have to carry too much gear. P&S cameras are great for this sort of thing.

The photo you see here is actually from a private event held by Capcom. We are outside at the pool area of Planet Hollywood and the game Resident Evil 5 is being projected onto the towers. I feel bad for anyone in those rooms though! There were actually 2 xbox 360s hooked up and people were playing co-op RE5.

It's tough to choose just one image to represent the whole day, but I figure this is a good snapshot to end the night on.

If you are interested, my full 2nd day rundown is available at www.gametechworld.com.
darkdragon > Plog 7-8-8: Woohoo!

So a month or so ago I was checking OfficeMax for a printer. Well, while I was there I checked out the clearance bin (of course). In the bin was a 120GB laptop hard drive (new) for $10!! I didn't need it at the time, but I went ahead and got it.

Yesterday I ordered a very sweet enclosure to put the drive in and installed it tonight. It took about 5 minutes to set it all up and format it on my Macbook. I'm very impressed with the build quality of the enclosure and it works great! Self-powered via USB2.0.
darkdragon > Plog 03-12-09: Full Moon

Noticed a full moon tonight with no cloud cover or wind. That is something that doesn't happen often here (almost always windy). Ran out and took a couple shots with my 500mm lens on the 40D. This is almost a 100% crop, but I think it turned out fairly well.
darkdragon > Plog 01-25-09: Animation

Today I'm working on my animation, you may remember the figure from last week's images. The setup is very simple here, I'm working on a "walking test" which is just animating the figure walking from one side of the frame to the other. It is a very long processes, even though it sounds simple.

I'll link to the video when I'm done, just taking a short break to upload this shot of my setup.

As for the lighting, I'm going for smooth shadow-free lighting on this test, not realistic lighting for the figure.

[EDIT] Finished the video. It is a little rough, I'll get some smoother motion in my next walking test. LINK
