darkdragon > Plog 3-10-08: Whaaa?

So, Saturday I went to a Camera Club outing. Unfortunately I got there a couple hours later then I wanted to. Luckily we found a campsite (the last one!) but by the time I got the tent set up and truck unloaded I only had about 10 minutes to hook up with the group. Well, here's the problem - I forgot the instructions at home for where they were all meeting at. I looked for about 45 minutes but never found them.

So, instead of going back to camp I spent 3 hours taking photos. Have to say, I'm not a fan of landscape photos - dunno if I am just no good or not, but I never seem to like my landscape stuff. I figured since I was alone I'd go looking for critters. Still a little cold for them though. I got some cute chipmunk photos and found one lizard.

This photo is a natural rock formation, and pretty much is how I felt the whole week last week - but especially saturday. Take it as you will.
darkdragon > Plog 11-1-08: Built To Last

Finishing up vacation to South Dakota, the last photo trip I took was to this old place in the middle of nowhere. It was found by a family member while looking for some acres that were being auctioned off on Sunday (found Friday).

The house OLD. Possibly mid 1800's (I was looking to buy a house in town that was built in 1897, so i is possible). The whole house is built with large bricks. Similar to cinderblock but apparently mixed on site. Why do I say that? Well, they are full of rocks and pebbles that look like they are from the immediate area. The roof is built of wood and "tiled" with tin under wood shingles.

We couldn't get inside as there was really no safe way in and we had no flashlights with us. It was obviously a farm at some time and has a cattle watering "lake" to the right of where the camera is pointing. There were lots of bones in and around the lake (cattle).

Very interesting spot and I got a lot of neat images (more to be uploaded soon).
darkdragon > Plog 01-02-09: Pretty!

Went out to the wetlands tonight to try out my new macro ring light. It is the cheap version and I guess I got what I paid for. The power was not great, I mean having to put the cam on 1/30 with a flash for macro? Maybe I just need to learn how to use it better. Also, there weren't really any bugs or flowers to shoot - so that made it difficult too.

I took the extention tubes off and started shooting with my 50mm. The sky was looking fabulous tonight. This is my favorite shot of the evening.
darkdragon > Plog 4-12-08: Ah! Spider!

Shooting some macro shots at a workshop with the local camera club. On the way out, while packing up we saw this guy in the corner. Didn't get a macro shot, but got a decent zoom shot. If he wasn't so high up I would have loved to get some macro shots of him.
darkdragon > Plog 5-9-08: Fun Times

So I did a little bit of experimental photography at the camera club meeting tonight. This is one of my favorite images. The only editing I did was basic stuff in Lightroom (crop, noise red., etc). No goofing around, this was all done in camera.

You can see a few more of my images from tonight over in my new Experimental SM gallery.
darkdragon > Plog 4-18-08: Pretty Lights

My first time shooting long exposure night-shot car lights. I'm hoping to get a better at this, but most importantly find a great/interesting place to shoot in town. This intersection, not so interesting, but I knew there would be lots and lots of cars. It was a good place to practice.

Any tips on this kind of shot are useful. Thanks for looking.
darkdragon > Plog 12-10-08: Final Projects III

Ah, the portrait requirement. Went out to get some morning light at a lake. It was a really good photo session and I feel like almost all of the shots turned out well. There was a problem with my flash running out of juice (not sure what happened there), but once I got that straightened up everything was cool again.

My prints arrive tomorrow and my final class is tomorrow night. Looking forward to see what folks say about my final images.
darkdragon > Plog 02-15-09: New Places

So today I found a new place to shoot just outside of town. It is called Floyd Lamb State Park and is a beautiful place. 4 ponds, lots of ducks and geese. I think in the spring it will be full of so much life.

There were also lot of peacocks and this solid white one. I'e never seen a white peacock before, it was very pretty.
darkdragon > Plog 7-13-08: Baseball, Baseball, Baseball

Went to my first night baseball game since 1994. It was tough, to say the least. In my opinion, I came out with pretty much zilch in the manner of decent shots. I was using my 70-200L with 2xTC and fully open at 5.6. I still ended up having to turn the ISO up to something like 500 or 640 for everything, just to keep the shutter speed high enough. Everything is SO grainy it is horrible.

I'll be downloading noise ninja this week to give that a try, but overall so far I'm very disappointed with the way my images turned out. Perhaps I'm not meant to do sports shooting anymore, I don't know. Sure these would work fine for B/W newsprints, but put them online or in color 8x10 or 11x14 prints and judges would rip me a new one.

:sigh:
