03/27/09: Chimchar!

I was at Fry's Electronics and put $1 into a Pokemon capsule machine. So lucky to get the toy that is my favorite Pokemon! Took this photo when I got back to the office (on break of course). Behind Chimchar is a USB airplane fan.

Plog 03-12-09: Full Moon

Noticed a full moon tonight with no cloud cover or wind. That is something that doesn't happen often here (almost always windy). Ran out and took a couple shots with my 500mm lens on the 40D. This is almost a 100% crop, but I think it turned out fairly well.

Plog 02-26-09: Review Photos

Yeah, I've been slacking of the photo-of-the-day project....again. Here you see a photo from a set I took last night. These photos are for product reviews I'm doing at GameTechWorld.com

This is the Otterbox iPhone 3G Defender case. pretty much makes my iPhone water-resistant. not waterproof, meaning I wouldn't want to leave it in the fishtank. I think though that if I dropped it in the sink it would be safe for the instant it takes to get it out (though I didn't test that!).

Still learning how to do quick and dirty but pleasant and useful product shots.

Plog 02-19-09: Ungh

Came in to this today. Mainenance switched the corner walls of my cube yesterday while I was working from home. Unfortunately they didn't tell me that they were going to do that, so i'm working and all of a sudden my connection drops. I couldn't get to my machines. Luckily my coworkers let me know what was going on.

This is what I came into today, had to spend the morning setting everything up again. Took this with my iPhone which is why it is so blurry and such. I'm shaky today since I had to take some headache meds and they make me shaky. Hopefully I'll feel better soon.

Plog 02-15-09: New Places

So today I found a new place to shoot just outside of town. It is called Floyd Lamb State Park and is a beautiful place. 4 ponds, lots of ducks and geese. I think in the spring it will be full of so much life.

There were also lot of peacocks and this solid white one. I'e never seen a white peacock before, it was very pretty.

Plog 01-28-09: Models

I've been busy gathering car models for my "big" animation. This is a photo of one of my models - a Mustang. I try to stay away from red and black, but that is the majority of what I'm finding. I have to say that this car is very nice in red though.

I'm no expert at car still-life, but what do you think? I have trouble with the reflective surfaces, but I think it turned out decent. Taken with my G9 as my 40D is set up for a new animation test for tomorrow night.

Plog 01-25-09: Animation

Today I'm working on my animation, you may remember the figure from last week's images.The setup is very simple here, I'm working on a "walking test" which is just animating the figure walking from one side of the frame to the other. It is a very long processes, even though it sounds simple.

I'll link to the video when I'm done, just taking a short break to upload this shot of my setup.

As for the lighting, I'm going for smooth shadow-free lighting on this test, not realistic lighting for the figure.

Plog 01-23-09: Competition

So tonight was camera club competition night. It happens every month at Nevada Camera Club. The way it works is you get a ribbon for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place which is blue, red, white.

I've been in Camera Club for exactly a year now, here is a shot of most of my ribbons (I've misplaced a couple). Entry is limited to 3 per month, I don't think I've gone any competition without winning at least 2 ribbons - though I didn't enter every time.

The problem (as you can see) is that I've only won 3 blue ribbons. I can get SO close and then end up with 2nd place. It is frustrating, but I keep at it.

Plog 01-21-09: Last One...Maybe

Done with all my project concept shots. This is one of my favorites so far, this is taken with a point&shoot. I took it yesterday but wasn't feeling well and didn't get anything uploaded here, tonight I've been working on prints so not photo taken today.

Plog 01-19-09: Still Snapping

Still working on the technology theme, DVDs is something I'm working with here. Not having a lot of luck with this so far, perhaps I can try some flash gels for some added color.
