Plog 3-10-08: Whaaa?

So, Saturday I went to a Camera Club outing. Unfortunately I got there a couple hours later then I wanted to. Luckily we found a campsite (the last one!) but by the time I got the tent set up and truck unloaded I only had about 10 minutes to hook up with the group. Well, here's the problem - I forgot the instructions at home for where they were all meeting at. I looked for about 45 minutes but never found them.

So, instead of going back to camp I spent 3 hours taking photos. Have to say, I'm not a fan of landscape photos - dunno if I am just no good or not, but I never seem to like my landscape stuff. I figured since I was alone I'd go looking for critters. Still a little cold for them though. I got some cute chipmunk photos and found one lizard.

This photo is a natural rock formation, and pretty much is how I felt the whole week last week - but especially saturday. Take it as you will.

Plog 3-6-08: It's Fine!

My husband says I need a new phone. Well, this one was $600 and I intend to keep it until it falls apart. That already happend? No worries, I have tape..I have superglue. It's a phone repair party!

Photo news: going to Valley of Fire this weekend for the first time ever. Gonna get some good shots there!

Plog 3-3-08: Something's Fishy

Alright, so this is not a new photo that I took today. I just processed, but I took it a few years ago with my Sony Mavica.

These are some scary fish. They hang out at the docks at Lake Mead and BEG for food. You could fit a ping-pong ball in thier mouths. Soooo grosss.

Hope to have a real new pic for tomorrow.

Plog 3-2-08: Family What?

So, you may not know this but a few years ago Las Vegas was trying to get more families to move in. They had a lot of fun things for kids to do and advertised the city as "family friendly".

Well, as you may have heard the most recent slogan is "what happens in vegas stays in vegas" and the "mayor" is saying that they never tried to get families here. He's saying that they never advertised the city as family friendly.

This photo is proof of the lies. A not-that-old local amusement park with rides and games. It was a very popular spot for kids, teens, and families to go to play and hang out. Now it is a big lot of dirt. The sad thing is that the sign is still there.

Plog 2-28-08: Macro it up

Been taking some macro shots for a small store contest in town. The deadline is Saturday, which I think means we have to have it into the store tomorrow - not really sure.

Anyhow, this is one of the shots I took tonight. It is part of the guts of a Canon SD250. Did you know there is a SONY processor in there? I didn't until tonight.

Plog 2-26-08: Spring is in the air?

Here's another new flower from the lobby where I work. Not as brightly colored as the last one, but it is bigger - does that count for anything?

I'm excited - tonight I will be taking a bunch of macro photos (mostly flowers, water drops, etc) to try and hone my macro skills. I've got the Tokina extention set and this will be my second time using them. Also a friend of mine is bring over her Canon 65mm macro lens for us to use too. This should be fun!

Plog 2-24-08: Portraits

Took part in the Sony/PopPhoto Digital Days seminar today. The best part about the class is that there is a model shoot. Most of the class was covering things I already know like F-stop, ISO, Av, etc. The model shoot was the big deal to me.

This photo is one of the ones I got, the rest will be uploaded at full size into my People gallery. I feel like I did decently. I wish I would have brought a longer lens, but I was more interested in having a fast lens. I took most of the shots with a 50m f/1.4.

Plog 2-20-08: Cool Phone!

This is rather old, Xmas of '05. I took a few snapshots tonight but they are for another gallery, not this one - and it seems silly to have the same photo on here twice.

So this is a totally awesome phone I got for Christmas from my brother-in-law in 2005. I love this kind of stuff and had never seen one before. Too bad i don't have a phone line (cell only for me, landlines are a waste of money). I still love it though.

Plog 2-19-08: OOB

Again with the not-daily updates. Been pretty busy these last too weeks getting ready for a Print Photo Competition with the local camera club. It's my first time doing a competition with print photos, so I've been learning a lot quickly. The contest is this friday so I hope I get some good feedback - I'm entering 7 photos (all in different categories).

As for this photo, it is my very first try at "OOB" or "Out Of Border" image editing. I like it, it's cool. This was done on a pretty crappy (blown out) museum photo I took in 2005. Turned out decent though, I'm excited to do some more interesting images. Perhaps I'll create an OOB album here on smugmug.

Plog 2-3-08: Las Vegas Wetlands

Went out to the wetlands this evening. Unfortunately I didn't get much in the way of a good entry. The wetland park here was just started a few years ago and isn't complete, but it's a great start. I did manage to take a decent photo of an egret flying and I saw a few hawks.I hope to go out there again soon in better weather.
This photo is part of the wetlands and I thought it was pretty peaceful looking and it was great to be out there.

I think I should have entered this photo in the LPS, but I didn't. By the time I had changed my mind, the thread was closed - it was too late to change.
