Plog 12-17-08: No, YOU'RE out of order.

Yeah, this photo is from yesterday - I forgot to move it to this gallery. We had a LOT of snow here in vegas yesterday. This is shot is at work and as you can see there is about 2" of snow on that railing. Driving home was nutty. Took about an hour to get 5 miles!

Plog 12-18-08: Movin on up

At my office, we are all gearing up to move to our new desks/office in the main building. We've spent many years in an old storage building and we are finally moving to the main (nice) building.

Anyway, I picked up this cute Dilber candy dispenser at a second-hand store over the weekend. Thought it would be great for my new desk. I've cleaned/disinfected it and replaced the batteries. It works! The "lid" was missing though, so I had to fashion a new one with part of the candy tin.

Functional is good. :-)

Plog 12-15-08: Oops!

Las Vegas is not a city that is geared towards snow. Today it snowed. This is what happens when trees are set up without the "what if snow happens" idea running through the landscaper's mind.

I drove across town to get some shots of the snow. It was so strange and pretty. This is not the only one I got, but I thought it was interesting.

Plog 12-14-08: So sad.

Came out from lunch today and had a flat tire. Husband and I spent about 30 or so minutes changing the tire (my first time changing one on my truck, his first time ever). Security guard came buy and helped us out too, that was a really nice thing for him to do.

Anyway, my tires were pretty bad (not horrible though) so I figured now was as good a time as any to get new ones. $900 later, I have 4 new tires.

Why am I sad? Well, I'd much rather spend that money on something fun. Feeling safe driving is nice too though. ;-)

Plog 12-10-08: Final Projects III

Ah, the portrait requirement. Went out to get some morning light at a lake. It was a really good photo session and I feel like almost all of the shots turned out well. There was a problem with my flash running out of juice (not sure what happened there), but once I got that straightened up everything was cool again.

My prints arrive tomorrow and my final class is tomorrow night. Looking forward to see what folks say about my final images.

Plog 12-8-08: Final Projects II

Another requirement of my final project for class is that I needed to do a shot in a studio. Because one of the toughest things for me is to do High-Key correctly, that's what I went for.

I also tried my hand at political something-or-other. It was fun to create this setup and the fact that it came out exactly as envisioned straight from the camera was another plus.

Plog 12-6-08: Final Projects

This semester, I've been taking Intermediate Photography at the local college. Today I went out to get some images for my final project.

In total I have to have 5 prints for the final. The image you see here will be one of them. Another one is one of the new images in my portraits gallery, not sure which one yet.

I'm still working on everything, I need to get 3 more photos for the project. Then I have to print and mount them all by Thursday night.

Plog 11-17-08: Hockey Time

This is a little late, but here goes. Saturday night I shot my first ever hockey game. It was indoors at night. I've shot a lot of baseball, some soccer, but I have to say that hockey is the fastest sport. There are no breaks until the end of a period and man is it hard to track that little puck and the rest of the action through the viewfinder.

I'll be shooting more this season and hopefully improve my hockey photo skills.

Plog 11-1-08: Built To Last

Finishing up vacation to South Dakota, the last photo trip I took was to this old place in the middle of nowhere. It was found by a family member while looking for some acres that were being auctioned off on Sunday (found Friday).

The house OLD. Possibly mid 1800's (I was looking to buy a house in town that was built in 1897, so i is possible). The whole house is built with large bricks. Similar to cinderblock but apparently mixed on site. Why do I say that? Well, they are full of rocks and pebbles that look like they are from the immediate area. The roof is built of wood and "tiled" with tin under wood shingles.

We couldn't get inside as there was really no safe way in and we had no flashlights with us. It was obviously a farm at some time and has a cattle watering "lake" to the right of where the camera is pointing. There were lots of bones in and around the lake (cattle).

Very interesting spot and I got a lot of neat images (more to be uploaded soon).

Plog 10-29-08: Sunrise

Vacationing (visiting family) in South Dakota this week. I got up at 4AM(!) yesterday to get out to an abandoned homestead for sunrise. I ended up only doing photos from and in the barn because it was so cold and dark. Of all the days in all the month, I chose the morning of the new moon to wait in the 15 degree darkness for the sun to come.

It was fun but cold. My favorite shots of the morning are two compositions i did of this tree grove with the sun just peaking up over the horizon. This one I cropped to 4:10 and the other I cropped square. They are both nice in their own ways.
